Underwear Styles for Men

There are three main styles of men's underwear on the market, boxer shorts & trunks, briefs and mens thongs, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. So let's look at each one in turn:

Boxer Shorts and Trunks
Traditionally boxer shorts were designed as loose fitting cotton or sometimes silk shorts, encapsulated for many of us, who are old enough to remember, by the famous Levi's advert in the 80's of the American guy taking off his Levi jeans in a laundrette and sitting back in a pair of white boxer shorts.

Still worn by some and perhaps more so by those who were inspired by them and were wearing them in the 80's, they have become less popular by today's younger generation of mobile text trendy youths, who are much more label conscious.

Boxer shorts now seem to be the preserve of yesterday's yuppie generation and have been pushed to one side for a more discerning male who looks for the functional and practical aspects that boxer shorts lacked, particularly with regards to support. Instead, men now seem to prefer the fitted lycra trunk, with technical fibres and added 'ball control' that meets the needs of today's outwardly looking active male.

There seems to be three basic styles of fitted men's trunks; the classic trunk, hipster, and midi. These differ according to where they sit on the waist or hip and the leg length.

Overall, trunks offer a seem free look and because of their close fit they also offer very good support and control in the pouch, which is possibly why they are so popular with men.

Men's Briefs
Briefs now seem to be one of the least popular styles of mens underwear and fall way behind in the league table to trunks. Nevertheless, they are still available in a variety of styles, which vary according to their cut. One of the main reasons that briefs seem to be less popular is due to the fact that they don't always sit in place at the rear and can result in an unwanted 'wedgie'. However, they still offer a more minimalist look that trunks and at the same time offer good support and control, but lack the line free look.

Men's Thongs
Thongs provide this all important comfort and support far greater than any other style and because of the ever increasing range of quality, stylish and practicality, men seem to be putting comfort before vanity and opting for a designer mens thong.

Thongs are the most popular choice of strings these are distinguished from g-strings by having a much broader string or thong that is about three quarters to an inch wide and become broader toward the waist band at the rear.

G-strings are favoured by some because of there much greater minimalist look they are distinguished by a much narrow string, usually only about a quarter of an inch wide.

Men's Thongs and g-strings have become very popular by the active male for wearing during sport and high impact activity because of the support and control they offer. They are most commonly made from micro fibres or cotton.

Underwear for Women

It's hard for a man to shop for women's underwear. Know the lady you are buying for and follow simple instructions in order to get the right underwear for her.

First off, you must choose what general style of underwear you are interested in purchasing for the female. You will find many styles of panties available at a lingerie shop. It depends on who you are purchasing for; one kind may be better suited than another kind. Pregnant women prefer to go with comfortable undergarments. Basic cotton panties are something you might want to stick with. Conversely, a thong may be a sexy choice if you purchasing for your girlfriend.

A woman can feel still just like a lady in a pair of boy shorts. There are a variety of cuts when it comes to types of underwear. You need to bear in mind that the cut is generally how it will fit on a feminine body. Look at the pictures if you are too embarrassed to handle the underwear. The bikini cut is generally the most widely recognized, so if you want to stay on the safe side, you should choose that style.

The color and material are the last things you need to decide on. When it comes to panties, there are many varieties of colors and patterns. The color that you buy for her will be determined by her own choice of decor. Black is always a safe color selection. Since black gives a slimming illusion, nine out of ten women will love it. You should also consider what material you want the panties to be. Materials come in so many choices these days. Many fabrics are used to make panties, such as silk, satin, lace or cotton. Cotton will make you feel comfortable. Silk is a great choice if you are buying for looks.

It is often difficult to choose a pair of panties. This list of instructions will be able to aid you slightly, however, you can ask a sales person to give you assistance.

Other Olympic Panties

In a recent post, we told you there were Olympians concerned with things other than taking home a medal in Vancouver. Such as selling their panties (and, no, not their specific undies on-line..) Allison Baver would be one of them.

These pictures are from a shoot for Muscle & Fitness Magazine selling herself in lingerie. And, according to one article, she's using certain types as good luck charms:

U.S. short-track speed skater Allison Baver wears “cute white panties” when she races. The have to be white — with or without lace — and just a little bit sexy.'

Then there's U.S. snowboarder Hannah Teter, literally selling panties (but not until after March 5th - damn those amateur athlete rules).

She's supporting the Haitian relief efforts of Doctors Without Borders by pitching for Sweet Cheeks Panties

Her goal is to move $100,000 of those. That should put a message across..

Blue Monday

A reminder- The new season of Dancing with the Stars begins tonight on ABC (in the U.S.) with a new co-host joining Tom Bergeron: DTWS 7th season winner Brooke Burke. As we've pointed out before, Ms. Burke has had more than a little experience appearing in lingerie, though she'll probably be a bit more demurely attired than when she was a contestant.. or modeling as in the vintage pre-Wild-On days example above. Still works as a Blue Monday for us.
